What is IELTS?
IELTS(International English Language Testing System, hereinafter IELTS) is a test for non-native English speakers to evaluate their English proficiency. The International Accredited English Proficiency Test, derived from the Cambridge English Test in 1980 to meet the growing demand for a public English proficiency test, which is a common test that is almost mandatory for students, job applicants or immigrants to the Commonwealth of Nations along with the Cambridge English Test.
Since it is one of the most important types of authorized English tests used in Commonwealth countries such as the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, New Zealand and Singapore and has the nature of college/graduate entrance exams for international students in its own right, it is very similar to TOEFL and has a competitive relationship with each other. The exams are co-organized and managed by the British Council, the University of Cambridge Local Examinations Syndicate, and the International Development Program of Australian University and College.
